Russian strikes cut power to hundreds of thousands across Ukraine

Russian attacks on energy infrastructure left hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian households without electricity on Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 433 long-range drones from Saturday evening, including 64 jet-powered aircraft, and that 371 were shot down or suppressed. It recorded impacts at 16 locations and falling debris at 14 more.
Reuters said power infrastructure was hit in four regions; Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported outages across a wider group of regions as the damage and restoration effort evolved. Those accounts use different reporting cutoffs rather than necessarily conflicting totals. Zelenskyy said the intensity reflected Russia’s attempt to exploit Ukraine’s shortage of ballistic-missile interceptors. Russia has not provided a detailed account of the Ukrainian grid strikes.
Ukraine separately said it struck the Kamensky missile-materials plant in Russia’s Rostov region. Nizhny Novgorod governor Gleb Nikitin reported significant damage to an unidentified industrial facility after a large Ukrainian drone attack, while Russia said it intercepted 235 drones. Moscow did not confirm Kyiv’s target claims. The exchanges show that a limited humanitarian truce around Oleshky did not amount to wider energy or air-war de-escalation.
