Qatar Gas Transport Company, known as Nakilat, said its liquefied-natural-gas carrier Al Mayeda was struck by unidentified objects while transiting the Gulf on Friday evening. The company reported no injuries among the crew and no environmental damage, and said the ship remained safe and operational while the impact was assessed.

Nakilat did not describe the objects, give a precise location or attribute responsibility. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry called the incident an attack and said authorities had opened an investigation. It warned that threats to LNG shipping could affect maritime safety and global energy supplies, but that is the government’s assessment; the available statements do not establish who acted or how the vessel was hit.

The incident matters because Qatar is one of the world’s largest LNG exporters and Gulf routes are central to global energy trade. It also comes amid repeated security incidents around the Strait of Hormuz and renewed US-Iran tensions. One operational vessel does not by itself indicate a supply disruption. The next reliable evidence will be the investigation, any inspection findings and whether maritime authorities change routing or security guidance.
