Polish security services and police convened an emergency meeting on Sunday after receiving information about a possible attack on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Reuters and Associated Press reported that the alert first reached the State Protection Service before being passed to police.

What matters

Officials described the warning as unusually credible, yet released no evidence or attribution. Reporting it as an investigated threat avoids turning an incomplete security assessment into a confirmed plot.

Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesperson for the minister overseeing Poland’s intelligence services, said officials considered there was a high probability that the threat could be carried out. A government spokesperson described the information as exceptionally concerning. Authorities did not disclose potential suspects, a motive, a planned location or evidence supporting the assessment.

That lack of detail matters: the investigation concerns a reported threat, not a confirmed assassination attempt. It would also be premature to attribute it to a foreign government or connect it directly to unrelated acts of violence. Poland has recently increased security attention after several school attacks and amid warnings about possible hybrid activity linked to the war in Ukraine, but Moscow has denied such plans.

The official response indicates that protective measures are being treated as urgent while investigators establish whether the information is credible and actionable.
